Common Childhood Illnesses in Pakistan
Diarrhea, pneumonia, measles, and malnutrition are the leading childhood illnesses in Pakistan. Know the signs and treatments.
Top Childhood Health Concerns
Pakistan loses thousands of children annually to preventable diseases. Understanding these conditions can help parents seek timely treatment.
1. Acute Diarrhea
The leading killer of children under 5 in Pakistan. ORS (Oral Rehydration Salt) is the single most important treatment. Zinc supplementation for 14 days reduces duration and severity.
2. Pneumonia
Fast breathing and chest indrawing are danger signs. Antibiotics should be started promptly. Vaccination (PCV) is available through EPI.
3. Measles
Still endemic in parts of Pakistan due to vaccination gaps. Fever, rash, and red eyes are classic signs. Vitamin A supplementation is crucial.
